38 Studios the creator of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning from Rhode Island, Providence, USA has closed down and laid off all of its 380 employees including all employees from Big Huge Games a subsidiary as of Thursday, May 24, 2012 do to financial difficulties. 38 Studios and Big Huge Games are know for the RPG game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning which was released in February 2012 and Copernicus which was in development before the studio closed down.

Even though this news seems a tragedy to all those that lost their jobs we believe that in the long term there is still light at the end of the tunnel as more jobs should emerge from this. Some former employees will find new jobs and others will form teams to work on indie-projects which might eventually grow into large studios creating even more jobs. Lets hope for the best!
